Halloween 2024
Well that’s a wrap on Halloween 2024, and what a spooktacular year it was!
We had a ball on Halloween 2024 at our place in Hex St in West Footscray, decorating our yard and welcoming more than 100 trick or treaters. This might not seem like a lot to some, but it’s absolutely huge for our area as we are the only house in our little precinct that goes all out on Halloween. I think it helped that we had two news crews visit during the day, filming the display and doing some interviews. Huge day, but we got so many compliments from people who visited and were so grateful kids in our area had a cool display to see rather than just grab candy and then onto the next house.
Props - bigger and better!
Our amazing 12ft skeleton arrived a day after Halloween last year which was super disappointing so we couldn’t wait to get him out this year and he was a massive hit. People came from four suburbs away just to see him, and the rest of the set up. We also got the Home Depot 8.5ft pumpkin stack from Dusk til Dawn Collectables near Ballarat, which was my new fave! It’s bloody exciting that Aussies now have access to these incredible Home Depot and other US store props and animatronics - great for Halloween, bad for the wallet!
Aussie props
We’re actually pretty impressed with the props available from Australian stores too this year. Bunnings FINALLY came to the party with something decent, and the 8ft talking skeleton was also a huge hit with the kids. Their Ghoul Witch less so as it stopped talking after about two hours, so that was super disappointing but it still looked good all lit up. But still back for a refund on him methinks! The groundbreaker from Costco was EVERYWHERE this year as it was relatively affordable at $399, and Costco had a decent supply of them too. Kids loved him too, and the sheer scale of him means he has real presence!
Little helper Archie
We were so lucky this year to have awesome little helper (and chief publicity officer) Archie, who lives across the road. He came over every day after school in the lead-up Halloween to see how the set up was going, and even stood out the front on the day and into the night to let people know about the display and showed people in and explained what all the props do and where they came from.
He was an absolute little champion, and his South Park Kenny outfit was brilliant! Thanks Archie!
