Celebrating Halloween – 45 years on!
After the incredibly successful H40 convention in Pasadena, LA in 2018, here comes H45, writes ANDREA BEATTIE
Arguably the finest horror movie ever made, Halloween has won legions of fans all over the globe since its release all the way back in 1978.
The cult classic was one of the first ‘slasher’ films, although, thanks to the genius of writer/director John Carpenter and producer Deborah Hill, barely a drop of blood comes into frame.
With a budget of just $US325,000 and shot over 17 days, Halloween is lauded as one of the most successful independent films of all time.
An homage to Carpenter’s film and all those Halloween films that followed in its shadowy footsteps, five-yearly Halloween conventions are held, and hosted by horror lord and mega fan Sean Clark of HorrorHound Ltd.
The conventions celebrate everything that’s great about the films, and horror movies in general, over a huge weekend in Pasadena, not far from where the original was shot.
We went in 2018 and it was INCREDIBLE. We met every star in attendance from the 1978 cult classic including Charles Cyphers, Nick Castle, Nancy Stephens, Tommy Lee Wallace, Sandy Johnson and more, and also stars from Halloween II onwards, right up to the newer films including 2018 Michael Myers, James Jude Courtney.
Horror’s Hallowed Grounds tour of all the filming locations of Halloween, and some subsequent films, was an absolute highlight and we can’t wait to do it all again, especially in light of the release of most recent Halloween films.
We interviewed the incomparable Jamie Lee Curtis for the last instalment in David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, and we are desperately hoping she will attend so we can meet her in the flesh!
This year the H45 convention will be held from September 29 to October 1 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Los Angeles with event producers planning to deliver what is sure to be the largest Halloween convention to date, including celebrity guests (directors, stars, and crew) from all thirteen Halloween films.
In addition to Halloween guests, the event will also feature vendors, “the largest selection of vendors any prior “Terror” convention has provided,” events, the return of the Horror’s Hallowed Grounds filming location tour, galleries, exciting social media photo displays, cast Q&As, lots of exclusive H45 and Halloween merchandise offerings, and professional photo opportunities.
Sign up to the mailing list on the official H45 website to stay informed about guest announcements, artist, and vendor reveals, programming information, and additional surprises.
